Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist who has been critical of the Saudi regime, has gone missing for over a week and is believed by Turkish officials to have been killed while he was at the consulate. A U.S. official says that the United States has intercepts of Saudi officials discussing the matter of luring Khashoggi into the consulate. Khashoggi is a columnist for the Washington Post and the US official has no solid evidence that the journalist is alive or dead.

Wade Keller, editor of the Pro Wrestling Torch, made note that one of the congressmen to condemn any relationship with Saudi Arabia if the allegations are true is Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, which happens to be WWE’s home state, and proposes that this may end up troublesome for WWE’s event deal with Saudi Arabia.

Terrible timing for WWE. If it was this weekend or last weekend they'd be OK< but this gives the media just enough to make it a big deal and an expectance for WWE to cancel.

He’ll take the PR hit and roll in the money. Been discussing this all day. I’d be okay with them doing it if they didn’t front like they’re this benevolent company. If they just came out and said “yo it’s just business and it must be the money” then I’d be cool. If they didn’t flaunt all that philanthropic work then yeah it’d be cool. But nah they want to talk out both sides of their neck:russ:

While our hearts go out to Mr. Khashoggi and his family we feel the millions of Saudis that make up the WWE universe should not be penalized due to speculation and unverified allegations. We are not in the business of geopolitics, we are an entertainment entity and our mission is to spread joy, happiness, freedom and liberty far and wide. If we pull the Crown Jewel the murderers win and Mr. Khashoggi will have died for naught. I feel that he would in fact want us to double down in the face of controversy as he was not one to shy away from a fight himself. We would be doing a dishonor to his memory and legacy if we did not hold Crown Jewel as expected. And not only will the show go on, we will dedicate it to him and honor him further with the first ever Jamal Khashoggi Memorial Intercontinental Championship Tournament to be held bi annually, exclusively in Saudi Arabia. You can see this and all the other action he gave his very life for on the WWE Network for 9.99 per month with a free month upon sign up, just enter code JKSATK18 and enjoy both modern and classic content. Mr. Khashoggi, the WWE and XFL salute and appreciate your sacrifice.
