I appreciate you putting me on to his. I knew it was a sample but didn't know the original was that dope.

Yeah there was a lot of great music made in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Most of the rappers you here today are sampling music from the bands of that era. War was one of those good bands from that era.

This is one of my favorite songs from War.

Above the fray.
The radio edit of this song is actually better than the album version. One of the rare GB songs where Willie D had the best verse. I almost want to say that he bodies Face on this one.

I remember a GB print interview around the time this song dropped. Willie D helped me realize that unless you walk in somebody else's shoes, you might not pick up things that they do. The radio version said

"what's up,out of towner?..southern rapper clowner"

He was going in on disses he felt East Coast (meaning NY) artists were directing towards the South and southern artists. He mentioned an old rundmc song that I never would have thought offended anybody, but..again....if you're not in somebody's shoes you might not see/hear what they hear.
From "Run's House"
DMC
Use strategies to get the best of me/
You dirty rat emcees/
Whoever you may be/
You need to go down south/
You need to shut your mouth/
Its all about no doubt just shout cus we turn it out!/

Who's house?
Run's house!

He said he respected RUNDMC, but he didn't appreciate the line.

The (then)current rappers throwing shots who he didn't respect?
Willie D had hands and was about that action, so....I'm sure it didn't end with this song.
