I get what you're saying. Ultimately wanting to play as a male character because you're a male is no more simple-minded or inartistic than wanting to play as a female because her VA sounds good. One person's reasons can sound intellectual in their own head but insecure or pretentious to someone else. I could care less about people's personal preference or their justification for it.

The real issue is when people use bullying-tactics to impose their own personal preference as inherently right while denigrating other's as flawed/problematic/inauthentic, as a means to restrict, monopolize, and control the art.

i.e. any mc that's not white male (or any female mc that don't got a BBL) is "pandering", then proceeding to review bomb, online harass, threaten, etc

People also need to stop outright assuming someone is on the side of those bigots because they disagree with the story arc. Joel being killed in the Last of Us 2 really didn't make any sense, hell the story made zero sense. And then they made Ellie the villain, when she had nothing but good intentions like trying to help humanity for the cure. The Dr. didn't even wake her up to let her know the risk of death. Ok you killed Joel who had a bad history, but now Ellie is the villain and lost everything she had good?

Curious if there are games where you can play as either a male or female....but you can only pick one for a whole playthrough....AND....each path yields a completely different game. Different dialogue, different strengths and weaknesses, even some missions unique to the male and female.

Like if you pick the female path, she might be better at using bladed weapons but the male is better with blunt-force weapons. Or the male is more susceptible to poisons but the female is more susceptible harsh weather conditions.

That wouldn't work with the Witcher because it's not a full blown role playing game and the story must meet and end at the same path. You can either play as Geralt or Ciri, with maybe some flashbacks.

I haven't read the books, but some are saying Ciri being the next Witcher doesn't make sense, so I can see that argument. Everything else is goofy.

If they read the books they would know being an empress didn't make sense. She hated her biological father, he murdered her mother and grandmother.
She would never take his reigns. More over she was a born nomad and ended the book series traveling to different dimensions. and always dreamed of becoming a witcher. She would never not be witcher low key

I have zero reason to think why either V character is better. I don't get it. Maybe I need another playthrough. The voices of both sounded fine to me.

Neither effected the gameplay. Neither had advatages or disadvantages. The story might've changed a bit, but that's all they did

Like i said unconscious bias makes people have a preference usually for the female VA.
I generally perfer the one that sounds the most like the character they are trying to portray.
I mention when talking about the Midnight suns that having the correct accent did it for me.
Same applies her, Male V has a street accent. Female V jst sounds like a regular chick.
