Cyberpunk was better as a chick tbh. Was more interesting from a narrative and voice acting standpoint.Yeah its kinda weird role playing as a girl bro. But It's not a big deal. Ciri is going to be a lesbian in my playthrough.
I'll pick a female character if the voice actor is better, like Jennifer hale In mass effect for example.
Sometimes the premise of a female lead in certain cases seems less...generic than some dude.
You must not be a very artistic or creative person, no worries though, most people are uncreative worker bees that don't respect mediums like this artistically
My first playthrough was with male V, as a nomad. Beat the game that way; funny enough my second playthrough was as female V as a street kid.People always say the female VA is better than the male.
I think there is unconscious bias, because i see people say this even when the female VA is trash.
First example being midnight suns. The male VA gave an old salem accent as he supposed to be an old hero from the pilgrim era, and the female VA was there with a modern valley girl accent and people still said they liked her better.
With cyberpunk, male V sounded the most believable as a streetkid/canon marketed path. And his usage of the cyberpunk slang was far more natural. The fem V literally brought nothing to the role, but people like her because they like her. Although she is my preference as a corpo, male v sounds too street to be a high level corpo agent.
but I think people just have a natural inclination toward female va's because they seem to be on that team regardless of who did the better job.
If you don't believe me I would challenge you to list just two games where you think the female VA was worse than the male.
So if there were a psychological bias, I'd be more inclined to have a familiarity with male V's Voice over.
I simply feel female V felt more subtle and less like a caricature of a street kid hero generic. He was trying alittle harder it felt, and male V wasn't bad at all mind you, thats just how I would articulate the difference. That and I felt female V's tone held more flexibility in playing as different races, whereas male Shepard, and male V sound harshly caucasian exclusively IMO. (Or at the very least, def not black, I can least see female V as a mixed chick)
As far as your challenge, I mean how many other games have alot of voice acting where you can directly compare both genders? I didn't play Baldurs gate 3 or Dragon Age, so I couldn't tell you there. Otherwise I can't think of many others.
But I can think of amazing male voice talent that I'd never replace in a game. I.E. Geralt, Nathan Drake, Joel, Kratos, etc
