I agree.

Redd Foxx's delivery is legendary, a genuinely funny dude that doesn't need a script to make you laugh.

I love Sanford and son. I used to watch when I think Nick at nite had it a few years back and decided to download the whole series. Fred is probably one of the if not the funniest character on tv. I wouldn't consider it top five tho. Maybe during it's run yeah. Top five comedy might be, but not overall.

Its ridiculous how little love Sanford and Son gets on the coli; there's not one argument against it being a top 5 show of all time...perfect cast, writing was AMAZING for the first 4 seasons, Martin got a lot of his shyt from this show (argument with pam, many Martin storylines are from Sanford and Son), so it was a trendsetter; first all black sitcom on NBC, etc. List goes on: show is legendary.

Let's not forget how great Demond Wilson was too; From seasons 1-3, Demond Wilson was the perfect match for Redd Foxx and their chemistry shows it; the show was good with Redd foxx, but it was a masterpiece because of Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson's chemistry and writing. After season 3, you can tell the writing shifted and Lamont's character was moved to the periphery instead of at the center with Fred. Fred became the center of the show and his relationship with Lamont became secondary.

What I love so much about the first 3 seasons is that they were solely about their relationship. 4-6 had writers change, so the stories were more about Fred and Lamont was there, but it was no longer about their relationship at the center. Still a masterpiece, but those last 3 seasons are not up to par with the first three because of this reason.

true, still holds up to this day. Nobody could match redd foxx delivery and it had quotables galore.
