Why is it that the people who are most vocal about "appropriation" usually happen to be white?

Is there any black person on the planet that is genuinely offended when a white person uses a reaction .gif of a black person?

When cacs support policies and institutions that hurt and oppress us, and then turn around and basically reduce us to memes, there is an issue and it is worth talking about.

Not sure why your takeaway after watching this would be to take up a dismissive attitude when the video touched on a number of interesting points and arguments.

I'm willing to bet that the white people who support such policies would probably not want pictures of black people on their Twitter feed.

Social media memes in general are pretty corny, but harmless all the same. It's not as if they're thinking, "look at me, I'm showing you all who the master race is by posting this picture of Kanye West! This is all you black people will ever be to me! Muahahahahaha!" when they tweet it.

My dismissive attitude is based on the fact that here is a yet another white person is making yet another claim about cultural appropriation based on something which is rarely, if ever, done with ill intentions, and telling black people what to feel offended by.

Did you not see the sister in the video arguing that these memes are harmful? :beli:

Did you even watch the video? "I'm willing to bet that the white people who support such policies would probably not want pictures of black people on their Twitter feed" -- did you miss the part where a fukking Nazi was using one?

so listen to the sister in the video then :beli:

furthermore, one's personal feelings are irrelevant to the social impact of a given phenomenon. so if the argument in the video is indeed true, whether or not you personally feel the memes are offensive is not relevant to the facts. so let's debate the content of the argument instead of some simplistic dismissal, "oh look, another white person talking about cultural appropriation" (which I think is a silly argument when you think about it. please enlighten me on how, exactly, white people critiquing white people inherently reinforces white supremacy? you can say it is sometimes a function of white guilt but I'd rather see cacs grappling with the detrimental effects of whiteness and white supremacy as opposed to just going and signing up with their local neo-Nazi chapter :beli:)
