Through the first text adopted, the U. N. Assembly proclaimed 11 August as World Steelpan Day. Randall Mitchell, Minister for Tourism, Culture and the Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, introducing it, said that the “melodious sound of the steelpan is a true reflection” of his country’s dynamic culture, history and traditions that encapsulates its national aspirations for robust innovation and product development.
