Lets chat about protein for a minute

im not all knowing as some would think that are new here, but i know some of yall(namely spliff) has some insider info on the different types

first off

Whey Concentrate vs Isolate

im operating under the assumption that Concentrate is 70-80% protein by volume and isolate is 80%+ protein by volume :dwillhuh: correct me if im wrong, ive also found isolate to taste like dog shyt but i digress

casein is the slow digesting one but ive noticed some people swear by it in fact may use it exclusively? any science behind this?

i posted this in the other thread but the last 2 powders I used are:

I honestly dont fukk with protein powder anymore but I really enjoyed Optimum nutrition when i did. Tastes great, and no issues with rare earth metals and other sketchy shyt.

I use this off and on, now that im back on my grind:

Yep, along with some electrolytes, B6, glutamine, and citruline malate

its a godly pre workout catalyst, but to be honest the new formula doesnt taste anywhere near as good. it works really well for fasted training.

i see the b vitamins, but you can eat a steak and get them BCAA's breh

like 25-28 with shipping and handling and I use about 10mg(way less than the recommended dose). Make no mistake its just a nice thing for fasted training to keep you from losing energy and feeling hungry. No way am I saying its a meal replacement, or even a large contribution to any diet.

Isolate has less fat and carbs than concentrate per serving, so yes to your assumption. It's still whey at the end of the day. Makes no difference in the grand scheme of things.

Casein keeps you satiated longer, and maintains elevated AA levels in the bloodstream longer. This is beneficial during a diet for obvious reason, but it's also suggested slower proteins trump faster proteins for growth too. That's not to say whey doesn't have its uses, but casein is more useful in more situations.

But when you factor in the rest of the days nutrition and their effect on digestion and what not, you can argue it doesn't matter.


Personally, only time I use whey is pre-workout at about 15g. Whole foods and casein (when I'm lazy, short on time, or need protein with minimal tagalong nutrients) take up the rest.

I use ON Pro Complex. Has a mix of Casein and Whey, mixes easy and tastes great. 60g of protein for 2 scoops. Works for me.

I have been doing fasted workouts for the past 3-4 months and I fukks with the Xtend heavily

I just use ON Extreme Milk Chocolate. It gets the job done and I'll be damned if it doesn't mix/taste well.
