I heard about this film on the "Get Out" thread a while ago and just finished watching. I get the reference of
taking over a body
I was reluctant about this mainly because of its rating on IMDB and it being a horror starring Kate Hudson. It looked cheesy and It doesn't have much word of mouth going for it.
Overall the film exceeded my expectations considerably. The story was great, well written, and came across as believable which is always a plus when dealing with the devil and possessions. I haven't seen many kate hudson movies, just thought of her as a pretty white girl but she was good in this movie.
Now for the bad, the cinematography and direction is what kneecaped this movie for me. At times you see the camera eliciting effects for the viewer when it wasn't needed for this, it came off as amateurish. The visuals didnt look good either. I keep thinking back on true detective S01 in the ozarks and how creepy they made that look. I could only imagine what this film would have been if another director was at the helm.
I feel the same way I did when I watched "The Lincoln Lawyer" (2011). Great story and screenplay but horrible cinematography and directing.
