This album put me onto The Roots. Loved this shyt. Super 'artsy' & boundary pushing without being corny.
Loved all the Proceed remixes too. That Roy Ayres remix was..... :noah:

Philly was in a rap drought in the early 90s outside of the youngstas. Philly also had that fresh Prince stigma.
So the fact that the roots weren't a rapping about the street life made people cast them to the side as corny.

That makes perfect sense, I can see that.

It's like five remixes to Proceed. The best one is the Process 3 Bahamadia remix.

Always loved this album growing up, but I was more into Illadelph Halflife. A few months ago I relistened to DYWM? and gained so much more love for it. Ironically when I played Illadelph after it, my feelings were flopped now. DYWM? sounds so big and musical. Definitely took for my ears to mature to fully grasp it.

You know it's weird, I was in school back in 92 and I used to travel to Philly and hang out back in the days taking the express train from Trenton (it was only a 15 minute ride). I knew Tariq when he was one of the most vicious battle rappers out there, it kinda caught me off guard when I heard this album it was like a complete 180. But either way this album is definitely one of the more mature hip-hop albums I've ever heard, the production and the sophistication of the raps was really well thought out even relative to the grimey boom bap of the era.

Cant front. Didn't get into The Roots until Phrenology. not becuz I thought they were wack but it just wasn't my hype back when I was younger. I went back and bought Do You Want More, Illadelph, and Things Fall Apart. Been a fan ever since
