Its possible one day, but there's a lot of old money in the way. If there wasn't I'd say the libertarians might replace them eventually or just become the main faction in the GOP- younger voters seem to like them a lot (more socially liberal). Personally i wish it was closer to a viable four party system, Dems, Libertarians, Green Party, and the GOP, but you cant have it all.

I like some of what the libertarians bring to the table, but I do think we need a combo of fiscal discipline (which neither current party has) and some centralized planning (i.e. public option, public higher education etc).
