The reaction by PSU students to these sanctions is proof that non-student athletes DO

......attend these schools because of the lore tied to their school's football program.

Watching ESPN's 30 for 30 about "The U" and hearing the President of the school remark on how the football team had nothing to do with their enrollment was, as we all knew, pure kaakaa.

TYRONE GA!
You'd be a fool to believe otherwise. Even if it doesn't directly have anything to do with it, it definitely helps.

It's a best of both worlds at some schools when you got a good football or basketball team and have a good reputation academically.

of course.

if texas tech strung together a football dynasty you'd def see a spike in enrollment. :heh:

plus that football money goes to making the academic departments better as well.

Miami is actually believable. Private school, south beach....

This schools like Penn St and Ohio St...yeah those kids are there for the team.

(even though I believe PSU is pretty competitive academically)

I was a good student in high school but I didn't know shyt about colleges even as a senior. I applied only to Ivy League schools, Football schools...including Penn State and Maryland (cuz thats my team :to:).

Sports are a big deal. Number one marketing tool by far. Education is a plus...

Of course. I'm not going to lie and say Auburn's football program wasn't a part of the reason I went there. Most people from SEC schools will say that sports somewhat played into their decision IMO. Same with B1G, Big12and PAC grads.

back before SMU got the death penalty they were getting a crazy amount of applications, which made their academic rep shoot through the roof. After, the amount of applications went way down, they lost a little academic luster, but still a decent school. I really think some pure academic types don't get or just don't want to know how these things can affect a school and its reputation.

If I told you that being a Wolverine fan since I was a kid didn't play into my decision to go there aside from excellent academics I'd be lying.

Not gonna lie either. I visited a few schools, and chose the school I liked being at the most and had a good reputation nationally. But I always liked the UT gear and could tell it would be good times at sporting events. The Alumni base is pretty tight too.
