Drugs in general ..... This is my bored at work post

Are successful rappers like successful drug dealers in that they look successful appear to have it all hustling poison to the masses and at the end of there span end up either working class, broke, dead or in jail for the most part? Or back to the PJ's :scusthov:

We have Jay Z, Ice Cube, Will Smith (acting money) Puffy, Dr Dre and 50 at the moment, Eminem and maybe Nas if he can take care of his IRS ish but most rappers it seems don't really have that happy ending. It seems there are many more that had money or the appearance of money and power that are now normal, broke or in jail. So lets talk about who has finished up or shaping to finish up nicely in this world of hiphop and those that have fallen off and now back to being like us normal people and what mistakes we the public think they made to come back down or if it was just all a lie to begin with.

I'll set it off with DMX, while he still may have some money and more then me for sure this dude should have more or be up there with Jay Z with all the records he has sold and movies he's been in. It's really just a dam shame. The Ruff Ryder movement, blood line records, Belly, Exit Wounds, Romeo Must Die, apparel ect ect. Its really a shame that he wasted so much he was given to the state that he is now from millions of records sold in a month to a few thousand people even knowing your product is coming out.

Of course drugs played a major role in this, but he is also blaming his ex wife and business associates for blowing and not watching money while he was in jail. We know X comes from the bottom but at the rate he is going I wouldn't be surprised to see a complete return to the bottom for X.

Or Method man, he should have some money stashed too from all the stuff he has done. Outside of RZA doing production and movies I would imagine Method man has been the most successful from wu-tang career wise but I remember reports of tax liens and car repossessions. At the same token I heard rumors of his wife being sick? So maybe that has something to do with his situation and would be understandable I remember Bleek saying if it wasn't for Jay Z his brothers injuries and medical care would have broke him and how most artist dont have health insurance.

Honestly, you gotta look at it like this, even rappers or entertainers that are struggling...most of them arn't struggling that much. Take Mike Tyson for example, sure hes not rich like he was, but he still eating pretty good. I bet Tyson has atleast 2-3 million dollars right now. So its not like hes poor. A guy like DMX probably is still a millionaire

I think one of the main things that ruin peoples' finances by the end of their career is how important image became in hip hop. If you weren't wearing the nicest clothes, the best jewelry, driving the best cars, in the clubs, or seen with the best girls it hurts your image. How can you be a don, a pimp, a player, or a baller if no one sees you actually doing the things you rap about? You have to dump all this money into maintaining a facade. I don't know exactly when rappers just stopped giving a fukk and bringing out the rentals and fake jewels, but it didn't happen soon enough for a lot of dudes':heh:. I don't really feel sorry for none of these dudes tho. They chose to live in the moment instead of investing in something. You could play it safe and be soon as kind of corny or you could go hard and do as much as you can possibly accomplish in those couple years you are on top:takedat:

Ok lets talk about Dame Dash even though he wasnt a "rapper" where did he go wrong?

Dame black balled himself out of the industry, he never built any business relationships with people outside of the roc. That whole me against the world thing he was on alienated himself from greater opportunities I think. He shat on everyone he worked with so it was no surprise when he was on the downside of his career no one reached out....moral of the story is be good to the people on you way up the ladder coz you'll meet them on your way down :manny:

I hear you but that method man info is mad old says he currently has a re-occuring role on the wire that shows been off the air for a few years now and I know rich people go through forclosures for various reasons some calculated but there is no upside to letting some one repo your car atleast not one that I am aware of because they normally will still come after you for whatever is owed on a car.

All of these dudes are eating good without risking their life, health, freedom and on.
They can set up their pension and all that shyt. It's all about having the energy, motivation and of course brain. DMX is eating good, but of the money he made 98-2003 he could probably still sit on 10-20 million and pull in a few millions a year on shows for the rest of his life. And that 20 million could probably yield at least 5-15% a year in a hedge fund.

But a lot of these dudes are stupid or grew up broke, never heard of an accountant, young etc etc most of them set themselves up so that they are slaves to the labels.

If dudes had better parents, most of them would probably be very straight.
Cause even when their career ended they cold easily work in media or the label, but they've got either too big ego or not enough brains for it.

I agree with this even outside of hiphop alot of them should transition into actually working in the music business after being an artist like athletes, I think that would help keep tradition and history alive and potentially pass along alot of important information.
