Along with the scammers who would want us to sell candy, cheese, or magazine subscriptions for shoddy prizes, elementary school in the 80s was terrible for any type of hype
Nancy Regan and DARE was in full swing, all those special TV episodes (the ones with no ending credit music) was really over the top with the drug use. Middle America had to be shown drugs are bad.
We had some dude who came by with a suitcase that was filled with "drugs". It was set up like some kids bug collection. You had a piece of crack with "crack" written under it.
DARE was something else. They did pass out T shirts though, so I suppose it could have been worse
