Klinsmann's job is fairly safe firstly. He's looking at the "team" not so much Donovan. How can you put aside the "bigger picture"? When in the present Donovan has beenFuhrer Klin is ballsy
Regardless of what you think of Donavan as a person or his current physique...
He needed to be on the squad for a few reasons
#1 For K's job
The media is gonna have a field day with roasting his ass after we finish 0-3 with like 1 goal
The American media love to point fingers and believe in accountability
They know nothing about soccer and only know Donavan as our big name
Along with Coach K being a sort've dikk in his interviews while also coming off cocky
He will eventually pay for this if we under-perform and will be the medias scapegoat
I see that he is trying to involve his younger players to gain experience
But sometimes you need to put that aside for the bigger picture
Besides,
some of these cats will never play and can experience the World Cup from the stands
#2 For the team
People argue that he hasn't been that involved in the past 3 seasons
True
But when he has...
especially watching him come on as a sub
He created a sense of urgency and fire on the field
Regardless of how fit we argue he is...
watching LD play...
he is still better than majority of our options
Go back and watch the past few matches...
Im not saying he should start
But off the bench down 2-1
There isn't a sub on our roster that can spark us
But in the end...
Fuhrer K knows what he's doing and has been somewhat successful
If success is defined by beating Mexico
(who we've caught at the perfect time the past 4 years)
I hope we succeed
But the media onslaught if we lose all 3 will be crazy...

Again..for team chemistry, having a guy who took a leave of absence from the team and come back and have a sense of entitlement is not gonna work out too well with the younger players on the team. LD is not the type to come off the bench as an impact sub. Yall gotta realize dude is NOT the same. The USMNT has the most grueling travel schedule, so you cant have a guy wasting a roster spot and is unable to perform.
Another thing that me @Grams and @crackfriends talked about today on the podcast is that Donovan was listed as a forward and not a midfielder. Who's spot was he going to take realistically?
