Dumb question: Raya can’t play against Brentford since he’s on loan from them. Is that a rule or like one of those unwritten sportsmanship rules? And if it’s a rule, would it apply to Champions league if you happen to face a team you have a loan player from?

Yeah its the rule in the PL.

But funnily enough in the CL you can play against your parent club. I remember Coman playing on loan against Juve and sonning them before he permanently went to Bayern.
