I don't really see a match in midfield against Aston Villa as some sort of legitimate barometer of his ability to play in midfield.

Hes too reckless to play CB for now and his on the ball ability is wasted playin that far back and Chelsea do miss someone in midfield who gives them energy and who can drive forward from deep with the ball. Ramires gives them energy but hes a much better runner off the ball and we all know that Mikel doesnt do to much in a game.

Would love to see him against a decent midfield that puts pressure on him, doubt he would prosper as much. Villa's midfield against Chelsea was about as worrisome as a cloudy day.

I still think he's best bringing the ball out of defense. Isn't Chelsea in the market for a new dm/cm anyway?
