I understand why Chelsea went for Lukaku given his history with the club, but they could have deployed Havertz as the striker for the season with Werner as backup and put all of their eggs into the Haaland basket in the summer.

Further cementing my point. Just an arrogant player whose skills don't match how he views himself.

Lukaku has always been a strange one.

His goal scoring record at all levels is honestly pretty damn good (He's no. 20 in the all time PL scorer list at the age of 28 and despite playing 2 seasons at his peak in Italy) so I can see why he thinks he deserves more recognition.

But he is so limited in terms of all-round play that it makes it easy to forget how lethal he can be as soon as he goes through even a mild scoring drought.

I think he definitely deserves more respect than he gets but at the same needs to recalibrate and be more honest about his views on his talent.

Not believing these Alvarez rumours, but since Ralf wants to keep Cavani and is happy for Martial to leave, he might be close to joining us?

Lukaku fukked up but I hope this really backfires on Chelsea.. Arsenal couldn't get the job done on the other plastic team.. Let's hope today is a success for Liverpool

Chelsea desperately needed a striker and he was the only attainable 'big' name forward. If Werner and Havertz weren't both utter trash then Chelsea could have got away with it for another year but desperate times called for desperate measures. :manny:

The thing that really makes me laugh is when people say Chelsea aren't playing to his strengths; he needs open space to run into to maximise his gifts etc. The majority of our games are against teams defending deep inside their area so there's no space. What is the manager suppose to do? And in the game against Man City early in the season where there was space (they played their defenders on the halfway line) he was an absolute mess, failing to control the ball and giving it away cheaply.

Sources: Chelsea drop Lukaku, future in doubt

When asked on Friday how to get the best out of Lukaku, Tuchel replied: "Training, training, playing. Training, playing, training, sleeping, eating good, training, playing, sleeping, eating good, drink a lot of water, sleep, train and don't give interviews."

Lukaku doesn't = winning. And goes missing in the big games more often than not. He's basically Higuain. Flat track bully against the weak and slow. And isn't clinical enough vs the top boys. Just think of all those goals he's scored for Belgium but none are important when they really mattered.

Lukaku is a striker in the wrong era. Unless you can play him with a partner or the team is specific set up to play on the counter. Which Contes teams are. Tactic is to attack first get a goal and then let the opps come on to you and play on the counter.

They had to do something. Jorginho was the top scorer in the league last season with 7 goals.

Who else was available?
would have gone for one of those random ligue 1 strikers for way less than half the price. Ben Yedder for example is much better against parked bus teams than Lukaku. Hell, even Memphis(he's not a striker but still better against parked buss teams) for $20 mill is better than Lukaku for $70 mill.
