Only reason I can think of for rn instead of 22 is they're facing pressure from somewhere to bring him over now since Messi left. Money exchanged for La Liga rights recently. It's weak I know but I can't think of much else, at least if that's the case it'd make more sense imo since he'd carry La Liga this season instead of it being land of misfit toys status. Real have a different set of rules to everyone else. They will want to flex their muscles to show they are still Real phuckin Madrid and no-one forgets it. Also it's one ups Barca even if they are working together on the SL.

Most people know Real been saving money for 2 reasons 1. The stadium refurbishment which btw is being overseen by a company that Florentinos mate George Soros owns 25% shares in. 2. Money for Mbrappe. They will make their money back on Mbrappe commercially and La Liga gets its superstar in the league. Real spending 160m is a long term investment. Which would of paid itself off and then some by the time the amortization has ended. 21st Century Real and what they have become revenue wise starts with them having superstars. Get the best/most hyped commercially player and the money will follow and flow.

PSG ask for 160m. Real probably paying between 60-80m upfront and then the rest is done over the length of the contract.

When it comes to Real you cannot apply logical reasoning as you would for everyone else when it comes to them. They are just that different.
