What's bad about the buyback clause? As far as I understand it'd allow him to go back should he be for the move (forcing Tottenham to play/appease him during his stay). Sounds favorable for the player to me.

United didnt want Real to buy him back after a season. But iirc from previous Real buybacks, they usually expire after the 2nd season.
