No one cares about the homeless or the veterans. It isn't just a UK/US thing tbh, it's a universal problem. In the UK you probably got about 4-6k war veterans homeless. As it's such a small number, it's like whatever, no one really cares. You probably need something very serious to happen for people to really start taking more notice. Or a group of famous persons with some clout to get behind it.
We didnt even take care of the Gurkha's properly. Only in the last 10-15 years have they given them/allowed then to apply for UK citizenship even tho they've been fighting for the UK for 200 years. They still have to serve 4 years tho in the Army.
With America it's so in your face, knowing America's defence/military budget and its OTT Patriotism about the troops pushed to the extreme on various media platforms is
and knowing how many of those people are permanent damaged thru physical and mental injuries and how they get treated. All they are getting is a token gesture that most people fall for being something bigger than it actually is. You would think the way America go on about their troops, they would be the best looked after people in the world.
I'm sure most of these governments see the homeless veterans really as the causalities/fallout of war. They did what we ordered them to do, now they broke, bin them out and bring in the new toy. Pinning a medal on someone's chest, a handshake and thank you for your service is rather anticlimactic way to be treated after you were willing to give your life for a country that you love.
Surely this can only be so we can get a transfer fee for him....
