The debate over the death of the 10 has been going on for about 20 years. Euro 2000 was the last dance for the 10; Rui Costa, Zidane, Bergkamp and Totti. Since then you had Ozil who was a throwback and considered a luxury. De Bruyne, Odegaard and Silva are technically gifted 8's. James Rodriguez was born a decade or even 15 years to late.

The funny thing about Ozil is he was probably born ten years too early. Ozil wasn’t a low activity player like a lot of 10s were. He was just taught to use those explosive movements on the attacking half of the pitch. He was a sprint monster at Madrid and early at Arsenal. It tapered off due to Wenger and his back issues.

If he starts his career later and learns how 10s are now, I think he would have been great today.

I mean there are a rack of tens. They don't play the way they used to.

City dominated the Premiership with Silva and KDB playing dual tens.

Its just played differently now.

in that sense yea, a middle ground to agree on, is a 10 that doesnt commit to defending will be out the team real quick in modern day football

And those aren't even 10s, they're closer to 8s than what we grew up with as 10s
