After many rumors of Donnie Yen retiring after making Monkey King and Ice Man, CTHD 2, Yen continued to surprise audiences with other projects...including IP Man 3. Yen said he wouldn't create this film because it would be hard to match up with the other 2 classics but fan pressure may have gotten the best of him.

IP Man 3 is different from the other 2 films with Yen in it. The style is much slicker and carries it's own version of really good camera work. The film also brings a more colorful scenery to the trilogy with different scenes with strong broad strokes of layered colors to fit each mood and scene of the film. The aspect of this film i think is too show more character development of Man that most didn't see in the other films. This is what critics( Americans) have been complaining about "Too much melodrama". The film brings into light a even more surprising character with at least a 2-D development...Mike Tyson. Tyson plays a bad guy but a bad guy with a heart to a certain degree. The action isn't a letdown here folks. This shyt bangs. There are many short and long fight scenes that bring out the best in this film. Tyson/Yen fight being one of them. The last fight scene is worth purchasing the film.

So there are many YipMan fans out there that will like this film, some may not based off the drama added to the movie but if they understand Yip as a person, he was more than some fighter.

so from what i understand ip man 2 & 3 he goes against boxers right? Do you prefer that direction as opposed to IP man 1 where it was wing chun vs other martial arts?

Finally watching it. So far it seems like the weakest of the 3. It's not bad at all, I'm not really feeling the plot.

Will come back here after it finishes.

Nah, it's better than the second one easily although it's still not touching the OG. The fights are a bit more showey instead of hard hitting which doesn't always work out for the best but most of the fights are good and I always enjoy how they portray Ip Man with so much modesty.

IMO, part 2 is a classic. Seen it 3 times and still stand by it.

Part 3 is really good, but still the weakest. The Tyson storyline wasn't necessary at all. At the very least it could of been done better.

If the movie just focused on who is king of wing chun then it probably would of been better.

Problem with the king of wing chun story line is that its been done in the series already. Plus its better to see different styles fight.
