I will admit I only watched the tournament and a couple other games but I get bust vibes. It felt like the majority of his baskets came from him being bigger and more physical than the guys he was going against which won’t be the case going against grown men in the NBA.

I think of how much of a beast Beasley looked like in college averaging like 20 and 12, and then he got to the league
Beasley was getting buckets in the league he just had off court issues

I like Chet going 2nd to OKC than the Magic. It’s a better fit there and he should be nasty with SGA and OKC can finally stop tanking :mjcry:

My Pops Forever RIP
I'm posting my official mock on the first post, though I'll post it eventually here. I've already posted my top 5 since I don't think I'm changing it. The rest will trickle in barring trades.

From RealGM Wizards board. Final rankings.

Dat2U said:
Final Draft Rankings - Top 50

Tier 1 - Franchise player

1. F/C Chet Holmgren
Ultra skilled face up big with elite defensive instincts. Plus shooter/slasher at 7-0. Game changing shot blocker defensively. Slight but feels like a can't miss prospect destined to be a star.

Tier 2 - Multiple All-star

2. SG Jaden Ivey
Hyper athletic guard in the Ja/Russ mold. First step is elite, will get in the lane at will. Shooting needs work but he's not a non-shooter either. Decent from 3. Improvement from frosh season was significant.

Tier 3 - Good Starter/ may make an all-star game or two

3. SF Bennedict Mathurin
An explosive wing with advanced shooting skill. Handle rapidly improved towards 2nd half of soph season unlocking his playmaking skill.

4. PF Keegan Murray
Incredibly efficient/productive but did it against college Cs. Still the skill level & motor is impressive. Solid from range who thrives on beating slower bigs off the bounce.

5. PF Paolo Banchero
Has the physical attributes of a #1 pick and the skill to match but motor runs hot & cold. Quick feet and advanced handle with his size/build make him a potential 3-level scorer.

6. PF Jabari Smith
6-10 big with advanced shooting skill which makes him incredibly valuable offensively but its his only plus trait. Not a slasher, playmaker or defender. Plays stiff.

7. G/F Dyson Daniels
I'm projecting him more as secondary ballhandler than a PG. Incredibly long & switchable with elite defensive instincts. Shot is a WIP but it looked good in workouts. Excellent passer who will need more aggression to be a lead guard.

8. SF Ousmane Dieng
Long wing with guard like skill. Two way potential with solid defensive instincts. Began to show a bag on the ball towards the end of the NBL season including an assortment of step back 3s.

Tier 4 - Good role player / capable starter

9. G/F Jalen Williams
One of the most versatile offensive players in the draft. Ultra skilled & 6-6 with a PF-like standing reach. Not explosive but smooth. Shot the hell out of the ball as well. Can play on or off the ball. Excellent in the P&R and an outstanding passer. Defensively is were the questions come in. I don't think he can defend 1s.

10. C Mark Williams
Freakishly length combined with solid frame & athleticism make for an incredibly efficient rim runner. Should be fine in drop coverage on the P&R. Should be a solid starting NBA C but there's no game beyond 5 feet offensively and he'll likely never be a threat from 3.

11. PF Jeremy Sochan
Projects a plus defender that's switchable 3-5. Gets a lot of comparisons to Draymond due to enthusiasm, motor & passing. Has alot of Deni Avdija in his game but more instinctive defensively & vocal.

12. PF Tari Eason
Athletic slasher who lives to go right. Even when starting off left, he'll finish right. Shot put jumper needs a lot work. Selling point is the length, the non-stop motor & productivity.

13. SG Johnny Davis
Two way guard with mid range shot creation. 3 pt range is suspect. High effort, energy & character guy. No quit in him but not an elite athlete. Feels like the 2nd coming of John Starks.

14. SF A.J. Griffin
Elite HS prospect with injury history. Athletic pop & aggression was missing at Duke but was still an elite level shooter and capable off the bounce attacking closeouts. Was MIA on defense.

15. C Jalen Duren
Rim runner with elite physical tools. Not quite ready for prime time but projects as a drop coverage C with some flexibility to switch onto smaller Gs. Flashes some offensive skill outside of 5 feet unlike Mark Williams or Walker Kessler but it still needs to be fleshed out.

16. PG TyTy Washington
Pure P&R PG who unfortunately did not get the chance to do so at UK and he really needs it to be effective. Operated more as a secondary ballhandler but his decision making in the P&R is where he'll shine and rack up assists. Not great athlete but tries defensively.

17. G/F Dalen Terry
Excellent size/length for G with PG skill. Versatile defensively and will guard multiple positions. Infectious personality will make him a locker room favorite. Improving shooter but to really be a PG he'll need to be more aggressive looking for his scoring opportunities. Poor man's Tyrese Haliburton.

18. PG Kennedy Chandler
Undersized dynamic playmaker who shot well from 3 but not the ft line or off the dribble. Defended at a high level in college but Gs will be able to shoot over him in the NBA. May struggle to finish in the paint.

19. SF Gabriele Procida
Athletic wing with a good looking shot. Strong finisher with pop, ok off the bounce but can improve. Needs more discipline ogn the defensive end but capable.

20. C Walker Kessler
Elite shot blocker with impeccable timing. Excellent rebounder. Strictly a drop coverage big. Not incredibly mobile and can get played off the floor when teams go small. Likely not a full time C but may be very impactful during the regular season.

21. SF Kendall Brown
High flying athletic forward and improving 3 point shooter. Shot creation is limited. Best case is a 3&D guy & high level finisher.

22. SF Nikola Jovic
A skilled connector with good mobility at 6-10 who can shoot it pretty well. Projects as light rebounding 4. Not terrible defensively but hard to tell as he was hidden by zones in the Adriatic league but instincts appeared solid. The Bjelica comparisons make sense.

Tier 5 - Rotation level guys

23. Christian Koloko
A solid rim runner with switchability in P&Rs. Shooting potential displayed in ft% and flashed range out to 3. Hints of playmaking skill make him an option at the top of the key offensively. Should be a good value despite the crowded C market.

24. PF Jake LaRavia
A playmaking 4 with good range. Skilled with range from 3 should be easy fit on most rosters. Light on rebounding but works hard defensively.

25. PF E.J. Liddell
Undersized but built like a tank. A versatile F with improving outside shot. Projects as a solid role playing 4 who can may be able to defend 3s. Post game will be negated at NBA level due to length.

26. SG Ochai Agbaji
Good shooter & solid athlete who's capable attacking closeouts. That's the good. Everything else is below average. No rebounding. No playmaking. Defense is just ok despite physical ability.

27. SG Malaki Branham
Stokes comparisons of Caris Levert. Herky, jerky scorer who thrives in the mid-range. Doesn't appear comfortable out to NBA 3. Non-defender who will likely be a negative on that end.

28. G/F Shaedon Sharpe
Wow type leaping ability. Functional ups in the half court. 3 inches taller and I wouldn't hesitate to draft him and put him in the dunkers spot. Good looking shooter to boot. That said he's a guard with poor lateral quickness. He's got an assortment of stepbacks and jab steps but its worrisome he didn't create space against HS'ers. Tough shot maker but that generally doesn't translate. A complete non-defender and appears lost on that end.

29. F/C Jaylin Williams
19 yr old that needs to expand his range to find a clean role alongside a rim protector as its not a strength of his. Incredible feel & touch around the rim. Aggressive & tough on the boards.

30. PG Andrew Nembhard
Has grown into an NBA prospect by improving his long range shooting and becoming a threat from deep. His ability to manage the game with pace and whip live dribble passes has never been in question. No mid-range game and struggles to finish at the rim.

31. SG Keon Ellis
The slender wing is a high energy defender/rebounder in the Herb Jones mold. A solid shooter from 3, he projects as a solid role playing 3&D guard.

32. SF Christian Braun
Solid playmaker and streaky shooter from deep. Versatile defender who can guard 2-4. Doesn't have one go to skill just can do a little of everything including block shots.

33. SF MarJon Beauchamp
The 6-6 wing displayed a good motor in the g-league but the shot is work in progress and not reliable as of yet. Good length & quick feet should allow him to be a plus defender. Used to play PG so capable slasher with good passing instincts.

34. PF David Roddy
Big framed forward loaded with excellent skill. Extremely productive & efficient as his 260 lbs made him a mismatch nightmare in the Mountain West. Quick in small spaces but there are legitimate questions about his functional quickness in space and whether he can guard anyone. '

35. SF Jordan Hall
Ultra skilled wing and shot creator with a solid stroke who was basically a PG for St. Joe's. Must get stronger to become a better finisher. Not much of a defender at this stage.

36. C Ismael Kamagate
Athletic rim & runner who flashes unrefined ball skills & passing instincts. Reason why he's rated so low is he is often lost defensively despite solid shot blocking instincts.

37. G/F Trevor Keels
Probably should be higher but his motor fluctuated throughout the year. Not the most athletic so he needs to rely on energy/effort to excel. Streaky shooter with some combo skill. Made some highlight NBA worthy plays just didn't always bring it.

Tier 6 - Deep bench/projects

38. Khalifa Diop
A non-factor offensively, Diop shows unique switchability as a 7-0 250 big who can guard out to the 3. High energy backup.

39. PG Jean Montero
Small quick PG with handle, creativity & shot making ability off the bounce. More of a scorer than a true PG. Struggles to finish in the paint & defense is a major questionmark.

40. SG Ryan Rollins
Skilled, jack-of-all trades guard who can score at all 3 levels. His defensive intensity & floor game need work.

41. Vince Williams Jr
His 3&D skillset belies a future role in the league as a spot shooter and defensive irritant.

42. SF Wendell Moore Jr
Projectable 3&D wing with a knack for disappearing at times. Questionable decision maker with the ball but can hit 3s, attack closeouts and defend wings at a solid level

43. PG Collin Gillespie
Excellent 3 point shooter with marginal PG skill. Will probably work better next to a playmaking 2. Sound passer but not special or dynamic with the ball. Displays defensive toughness.

44. SF Jabari Walker
Sweet shooting forward with little else to offer. Michael Porter Jr lite. Good size, length & twitch & but not impactful with it.

45. SG Jaden Hardy
ISO heavy guard with bad shot tendencies. One of better shot creators in the draft but shot making, decision making & effort level leave a lot to be desired.

46. SG Blake Wesley '
A relentless downhill attacker who struggles to process the game outside of scoring. And he's also an inefficient scorer with questionable range. Thrives in the mid-range and has burst off the bounce.

47. SF Julian Champagnie
Streaky 3&D player, with some shot creation in the mid-range but with limited passing/court vision. Solid, not great athlete. '

48. SG Bryce McGowens
Rail thin guard often punished by bigger players on both sides of the ball. Can't guard anyone. Showcases a variety of skills but tends to flash it against weaker comp. Must shoot better than 25% from 3.

49. SG Tevin Brown
Skilled playmaker and very good shooter. Needs to get stronger and is poor defender. FT shooting % is a concern.

50. PG Alondes Williams
Skilled big bodied guard with a tight handle and good passing instincts. To TO prone and not a good shooter. Shooting will be swing skill. Not a good defender either

So is no one gonna address the elephant in the room, Chet's medical records or lack thereof? Will that make OKC pass on Chet and fukk the Rockets pick up or is this a non-issue?

Been going back and forth with Banchero.

I think that Green and Banchero combo in Houston is going to be legit legit.

Their main lineup will consist of:
2-3 legit outside off-ball threats: KPJ, Green, possibly Banchero
1-2 jumbo playmakers (Banchero/Sengun) with 2 secondary playmakers (KPJ/Green)
4 options who can go iso and create their own shot - one of which may have the league's quickest first step.

Get 3 and D and they can really run with it.

shyt, that 3 guard lineup with KPJ/Green/Garrison is crazy space for Banchero/Sengun.
Banchero also brings out any PFs that want to defend the paint creating more passing lanes for KPJ/Green to expose as well as space for Sengun to iso and Green to attack.

If Silas can install a motion offense they'd dominate because that's practically an ideal lineup for one.

Not to mention outside of Wembanyama and Scoot that 2023 draft has a load of 6-7"+ SFs and big PGs . Houston can complete their core in that draft.

According to YODA, Murray is the #1 prospect.

Inspired by the Washington Wizards record of draft day futility, about a decade ago I wondered whether I could build a stat-based prospect evaluation tool that could analyze potential draft picks.

I developed the first version largely in public — I posted about it regularly on the Wizards message board at RealGM. Along the way, I referred to it as Ye Olde Draft Analyzer, someone trimmed that to YODA, and the name stuck.

The basics are still in place. YODA uses only publicly available information in the form of in-game stats and measurements/times from the NBA combines or other similar events. In the case of prospects who don’t get measured or timed, I’ll sometimes review game footage to see if I can discern size and athletic tools by comparing them to prospects with measurements/times.

The evaluation process includes adjustments for position, age and level of competition. While I do look at mock drafts and information from other analysts, I don’t include their evaluations in YODA.

I’ve tweaked the system significantly over the years, especially how I handle position, age and level of competition. The base production formula is probably the only thing that hasn’t changed: points + 0.7 x oreb + 0.3 x dreb + steals + 0.5 x (blocks + assists) - 0.7 x FGs missed - FGM - turnovers - 0.5 x (personal fouls + FTA)

That production then gets rolled together with the adjustments for position, age, level of competition, size and athleticism to produce a score and ranking.

The results from each season are available online wherever I was writing that year.

The 2022 NBA Draft looks fairly normal to YODA, though the system differs a bit with some of the other evaluations out there. I’m not about to assert that I’m right, and they’re wrong. One of the key lessons from going through this exercise the past few years is humility. Turns out, it’s difficult to forecast the future development of 18-22 year olds.

For this year’s draft, I tweaked the system (again) to four position groups:

  • Guards — These are traditional point and combo guards who are likely too small to make a living competing against NBA wings.
  • Wings — These are shooting guards and small forwards, who won’t play PG but don’t seem to have the size or athleticism to play against big forwards or centers.
  • Forwards — PFs and SFs with the size and athleticism to compete against other big forwards, but aren’t likely to play the bulk of their NBA minutes in the middle.
  • Centers — Big guys who figure to play inside. In some cases, these are athletic forwards who lack the shooting or ball skills to play on the perimeter in the NBA. In others, they’re the traditional rim-running, rim-protecting, rebounding big.
Here’s this year’s draft, according to YODA:

  1. Keegan Murray, F, Iowa — Most mock drafts have Murray lower, and I spent a fair amount of time trying (and failing) to see why. The only potential concerns in the numbers: little playmaking (just 1.9 assists per 40 minutes) and perhaps some concern about lateral agility. What pops in the numbers are the positives: big-time scorer on crazy-high efficiency (62.1% on twos, 39.8% on threes), plus rebounding, steals and blocks, and almost no turnovers. His statistical profile suggests someone who will be successful in the NBA.
  2. Chet Holmgren, C, Gonzaga — Super-skinny, skilled and productive. Holmgren will likely start his career at forward and shift to the middle as his body matures and he gets stronger. His length and athleticism figure to make him a defensive asset as his career progresses — he averaged 5.5 blocks per 40 minutes in the NCAA last season.
  3. Jabari Smith Jr., F, Auburn — Impressive prospect with a few statistical yellow flags. The brightest of the warning flags is his 43.5% shooting on twos, which suggests some difficulty getting to and finishing at-rim. The low two-point percentage, pedestrian steals and blocks, and low offensive rebounding numbers at least raise some questions about his applied athleticism. Still, he can really shoot (42.0% on threes, 79.9% from the FT line), and he did a good job drawing fouls.
  4. Paolo Banchero, F, Duke — BIG forward who may end up playing center in the NBA...if he can learn to be a rim protector on defense. Given his reputation, I was a little surprised at the below-average offensive efficiency. Still, the overall production was excellent, and he showed high-level playmaking that will be a major asset in the NBA.
  5. Tari Eason, F, LSU — An interesting prospect to evaluate, in part because he came off the bench (and won the SEC’s Sixth Man of the Year award). He still averaged 24.4 minutes per game, and his production was excellent. By the numbers, he’s a good mix of size, athleticism, skill and motor. A recent report quoted an unnamed NBA scout who said Eason struggled to learn offensive and defensive systems. That’s a concern, but his overall package still looks likely for a successful NBA career.
  6. Bennedict Mathurin, W, Arizona — Good shooter with the size and athleticism to excel in the NBA. A few weeks ago, it seemed that he would be available to the Wizards at 10. Now it looks like they’ll need to trade up to get him. He apparently wowed executives in team interviews.
  7. Dyson Daniels, G, G League Ignite — A big and athletic guard, who has the size to play on the wing as well, who can do everything except shoot. Coming over from Australia, Daniels showed rebounding, playmaking and defense in the G League...while also shooting just 27.3% from three-point range. The Wizards believe they can teach shooting, though they probably won’t get the chance with him if they stay at 10.
  8. Jaden Ivey, G, Purdue — Considered by most to be a top five pick, he’s unlikely to slip past four. Recent rumors have Tommy Sheppard and the Wizards trying to trade up to the fourth pick to select Ivey. I suspect more smoke than fire with that rumor. The talent is there, though the efficiency and overall production wasn’t eye-popping.
  9. Jeremy Sochan, F, Baylor — Big forward with rebounding and defensive skills. Converted well inside, but his offensive efficiency was subpar, in part because of poor shooting from three-point range and the free throw line.
  10. Mark Williams, C, Duke — The massive center (9-9 standing reach) looks like he’ll be a rim-running, rim-protecting, rebounding big man for the next decade. He averaged 4.8 blocks per 40 minutes this season. His offensive game is basically three-feet and in.
  11. AJ Griffin, W, Duke — Good shooter who’s a solid athlete. His non-shooting numbers are kinda ordinary, and he’s suffered multiple knee injuries. If he can stay healthy and improve defensively, he can be a valuable 3&D wing.
  12. Johnny Davis, G, Wisconsin — Impressive looking prospect whose numbers don’t pop. His backers argue that his efficiency was dragged down by an ankle injury and from a heavy load. The injury and the load weren’t enough to prevent him from grabbing 9.6 rebounds per 40 minutes. The concerns: poor shooting (46.6% from two, 30.6% from three) and more turnovers than assists.
  13. E.J. Liddell, F, Ohio State — A little undersized, but he’s a good shooter and an outstanding athlete.
  14. Jalen Williams, W, Santa Clara — After evaluating his numbers, I watched some video and thought he might be a bit underrated. On the other hand, his rebounding numbers were a little anemic for an NBA-caliber athlete against relatively weaker competition. I think his combination of shooting and playmaking make him a good bet for team potentially as early as 10.
  15. Kennedy Chandler, G, Tennessee — Small guard (measured a shaded under 6-0 in socks at the combine), who’s hyper-athletic. Superb playmaker and decent shooter, though he converted just 60.6% from the FT line.
  16. David Roddy, W, Colorado State — A wide body with superior agility, Roddy is slated as a second round pick in most mock drafts. In the numbers, I see a terrific shooter (62.0% on twos, 43.8% on threes) with rebounding and some playmaking. If he’s truly available in the second round, the Wizards could do well to acquire a pick to take him.
  17. TyTy Washington, G, Kentucky
  18. Dalen Terry, W, Arizona
  19. Christian Koloko, C, Arizona
  20. Ochai Agbaji, W, Kansas
  21. Kendall Brown, W, Baylor
  22. Jalen Duren, C, Memphis
  23. Walker Kessler, C, Auburn — 70.2% on twos and 7.1 blocks per 40 minutes.
  24. MarJon Beauchamp, G, G League Ignite — A couple weeks ago, I heard the Wizards were considering him at 10. Haven’t heard that in the last few days, however.
  25. Jake LaRavia, W, Wake Forest
  26. Ryan Rollins, G, Toledo
  27. Wendell Moore Jr., G, Duke — Terrific shooter.
  28. Christian Braun, W, Kansas
  29. Keon Ellis, W, Alabama
  30. Ousmane Dieng, W, NBL — Horrible season in the Australian league, but plus size and athleticism. Scouts love Dieng.
  31. Michael Foster Jr., C, G League Ignite
  32. Malakhi Branham, W, Ohio State — Excellent shooter slated to go in the first round. YODA doesn’t like the lack of non-shooting production.
  33. Gabriel Procida, W, International
  34. JD Davison, G, Alabama
  35. Justin Lewis, F, Marquette
  36. Josh Minott, C, Memphis
  37. Jean Montero, G, Overtime Elite — Tough evaluation for YODA because Overtime Elite is new. Some of Montero’s numbers were superb...but they were compiled mostly against high school teams. We’ll see.
  38. Jabari Walker, W, Colorado
  39. Blake Wesley, G, Notre Dame
Next is a group of players who YODA thinks are more borderline as prospects. These are players to select in the latter part of the second round or pursue as undrafted free agents.

  • Julian Champagnie, F, St. John’s
  • Andrew Nembhard, G, Gonzaga
  • Dereon Seabron, W, NC State — When I watched video on him, I subjectively liked him better than his YODA score. But, he shot just 25.6% from three.
  • Moussa Diabate, F, Michigan
  • Trevor Keels, G, Duke
  • Nikola Jovic, F, International — Considered by most to be a first round pick. He’s long and has playmaking skills. He also shot poorly, didn’t rebound or defend, and produced almost as many turnovers as assists.
Finally, there’s a group of interesting players with potential who could become NBA contributors if they work hard enough and get lucky.

  • Alondes Williams, G, Wake Forest
  • Tevin Brown, W, Murray State
  • Scotty Pippen Jr., G, Vanderbilt
  • Kofi Cockburn, C, Illinois
  • Ismael Kamagate, C, International
  • Bryce McGowens, W, Nebraska
  • Vince Williams, W, VCU
  • Jaden Hardy, W, G League Ignite
  • Orlando Robinson, C, Fresno State
  • Jaylin Williams, C, Arkansas
If I missed anyone you’re interested in hearing about, please let me know in the comments or on Twitter @So_Wizards.

I really dont understand how chet doesnt go 1, he clearly has the biggest upside of all the players. Point of the draft is to grab your best chance at a superstar. I mean i'd be estastic when/if okc gets him but its odd. I guess orlando already has bigs but who cares, u make decision to move them.
