Just a thought, but why does FUBU get shytted on so hard here? I get it is out of style but we never went this hard on Hilfiger, Cross Colours, Karl Kani, 8 ball jackets and starter jackets but for some reason FUBU is always a running joke on here.

Fubu always sucked. Some just fake liked it because it was "black owned" for about 10 minutes.

I never wore FUBU so I always been neutral to it. Never knew it sucked. But that's why I never purchase clothes with brand names stamped all over it for this reason. I don't know if Nautica is out of style cuz I was rocking in the mid 90s but I bought an ill ass button up by Nautica a few months ago. No brand names just the little logo on the left chest area.

I think there's 2 parts to the answer:

1) It was a black-owned business: Not only do black people NOT do business with each other but most of us have this crab in the bucket mentality where we have to go out of our way to shyt on other successful black folks.
Exhibit A:

2) It's out of style: In the world of hip hop people take trends way too seriously. We have kids getting killed for their air jordans and other trendy clothing. People get verbally/physically abuse for not wearing up-to-date fashion.
Exhibit B:

I thought about the crab in a barrel syndrome you describe but I also wanted to point of Karl Kani and Cross Colours which does not catch the same amount of ether on this board are also both black owned and operated during their hey day..

Plus Fubu was sold very quickly to a Korean company and its based in Korea to this day. As you stated Karl Kani, Rocawear, and other "black" brands never got clowned as much as FUBU IMO because FUBU was so gaudy and cartoonish in their designs. When i think of FUBU i think of some Mexican wearing a lime green number 32 jersey or some shyt. Has nothing to do with crabs in the bucket from my end.
