Use facts to counter stereotypes brehs :beli:

This is all most people see:
The resistance to the research in the field may speak to the fact that racially-motivated stereotypes are particularly hard to break out of. For instance, despite the wealth of evidence disproving Americans’ assumptions about welfare recipients, the deeply-ingrained myth of the “welfare queen” remains.

Although black fathers are more likely to live separately from their children — the statistic that’s usually trotted out to prove the parenting “crisis” — many of them remain just as involved in their kids’ lives. Pew estimates that 67 percent of black dads who don’t live with their kids see them at least once a month, compared to 59 percent of white dads and just 32 percent of Hispanic dads.

This is the most impressive part.

Of course all the other stuff is good, but; we still live away from our kids, the most.

Great article and usually something you don't see in thecoli.

But, I haven't read the other coli comments  hopefully we just live black women live.

I'm glad they finally pulled some numbers on co-parenting. I've always said that just because we have a high number of out of wedlock births, doesn't mean men the men are completely absent from their children's lives.

I didn't know that seeing your child "at least once a month" meant you were considered an active parent.

:snoop:

True, that's a pretty low bar, but the point is its a bar that's met by more black father's than white fathers. We never hear about a "lack of dads" in their communities.

White people always push negative stereotypes on minorities. It's always been that way in America.
Even Native-Americans are tarred with the "alcoholic" stereotype, despite being outnumbered by white alcoholics by more than a million to one.
You don't see white men being stereotyped as child sex predators :beli:
