I was listening to the Pete Rock/CL greatest hits for the first time in 10 years. The beats of course are immaculate, but i found myself being downright perplexed by the bullshyt coming out of CL's mouth. Dude has no quotables. His story telling was non existent. Just a bunch of random one liners thrown together. I remember when i was kid i thought dude was actually nice, but as a older nikka i realize he was just using a bunch of words.

Of course we know this is his most famous song, its about Trouble T Roy, but he only got like 3 lines Max. The rest he was talking about his moms and pops. WTF?

There is a reason why Pete Rock has had success without CL while CL has none without Pete.

Trash? No. CL is an average to slightly above average rapper.

He was the master of saying alot without saying anything. Talib Kweli Sr. Just stringing words together without any wit, charisma or cohesion

Like that, we for real

Pete Rock and CL Smooth
Yeah, c'mon, hit me

I reminisce so you never forget this
The days of wayback, so many bear witness the fitness
Take the first letter out of each word in this joint
Listen close as I prove my point

T to the R O Y, how did you and I meet?
In front of Big Lou's fighting in the street
But only you saw what took many time to see
I dedicate this to you for believing in me

Rain or shine, yes, in any weather
My grandmom Pam holds the family together
My Uncle Doc's the greatest, better yet the latest
If we're talking about a car, Uncle Sterling got the latest

I strive to be live 'cause I got no choice
And run my own business like my Aunt Joyce
So Pete Rock hit me, 'nuff respect due
When they reminisce over you, listen

these lyrics literally have nothing to do with the other bars. Its supposed to be a tribute song, what the fukk is he talking bout?

He and T-Roy had a personal friendship so I think it probably be more relatable to those that ran in their circle, but in your opinion this makes him TRASH?

cl smooth was not g rap or nothing like that but he could spit imo

He had a ok, if not boring flow. but he said absolutely nothing. Nobody knows of any CL quotables. He got zero features after his work with Pete Rock. Dude is ZQuil on the mic. Nobody checks for dude which is weird because i cant think of any other rapper with a 5 mic album that has ZERO fans

The song is about Troy, yet he only got one bar.
