A CONVICTED paedophile was arrested in Cambodia on Sunday after anti-trafficking police found him in bed with an eight-year-old boy.
Richard Fruin, 36, has previously served time in British prison for the production of child pornography.
Mr Fruin was arrested at the Boeung Meas Guesthouse in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, where he had been staying for about a month.
"We arrested him sleeping with an eight-year-old at his guesthouse," Lieutenant Colonel Lao Lin, chief of Cambodia's anti-human trafficking department,
told The Cambodia Daily.
"We are still investigating to determine whether or not he had sex (with the boy)," he said.
Mr Fruin is being detained at the Cambodian Interior Ministry. He will be sent to municipal court when the police have finished their inquiry.
Pen Chantha, who owns the Boeung Meas Guesthouse where Mr Fruin was staying, didn't notice any suspicious activity before the police showed up,
The Cambodia Dailyreports.
"I was shocked when the police came to arrest him," Ms Chantha said. "I never saw anything strange while he was staying at my guesthouse."
In 2005, Mr Fruin was charged with 15 counts of producing child pornography in the United Kingdom. He fled to Africa and Southeast Asia for seven years after being released on bail.
Mr Fruin returned to the UK in 2012, served a one-year sentence in prison, then flew to Cambodia.
The anti-paedophile organisation Action pour les Enfants (translated: action for the children) says Mr Fruin has been working as an English teacher in Phnom Penh.
The mother of the eight-year-old boy found with Mr Fruin said all three of her sons, aged eight, 10 and 11, told police he had abused them
