I have a feeling that the game will start off with Ellie right off the bat then mid-game we'll see a cutscene of Ellie and some other characters she meets. Chillin by a campfire. Ellie starts telling her story and then cuts to a "1 year earlier" text and you start playing as Joel. Leading up to the events of why she's on a killing rampage.
You see Joel get murked in a horrible way and Naughty Dog gets the player just as pissed off as Ellie for what happened as you continue to finish the game.
