Reading that article, kinda feels to me like Mazin and Druckman are thinking about going away from the flashback style of storytelling the 2nd game has and
just do a more linear approach. Maybe each episode is in a specific timeframe, which lets them introduce all the different factions that show up between both video games.

It also could mean they decided that the ending of season 2 is (big spoiler next)

The golf club scene, and all of the 2nd season is a build it to it + building all the other factions/characters

Specially after reading this:

“We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too,” Mazin said. “We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4.”

This was always my assumption. Primarily because

pascal is too big of a draw to kill him off so soon.

typical HBO. a successful show ALWAYS gets less and less episodes and u gotta wait longer and longer between seasons.

they doing this with HOTD and also white lotus currently. euphoria as well TBH.

showtime and starz NEVER pull this bullshyt. neither does netflix.

how does HBO justify charging such a premium price when they typically only have 1 good show at a time, and the seasons are hella short?

Cause they out here blowing 20-30 million dollars an episode on a lot of their shows but they aren't doing the GoT numbers of old to justify it. But it's good TV and it brings attention so they give you just enough. Look at a show like The Wire. Never once did it make it's money back in viewership but it was so fukking good they let it ride as long as they could.

That's why HBO is the goat. They won't dump good shows just cause people aren't watching.

showtime ALWAYS gives u at least 10 episodes for all of their successful series and will run them straight into the ground. starz has been pumping out 10 episodes of everything in the power universe for the past 10 years at this point. at least they are hella consistent.

even when showtime had SUPER successful shows like shameless and dexter, they used to give us at least 12 episodes EVERY year. none of this 2 years off bullshyt. I remember one year, shameless did two seasons in the same calendar year. they don't fukk around.

TV has changed. since the production cost are being put on the network, who also acts as the distrubutor, and they are no longer really able to syndicate unless they license one of their original shows to something like netflix.

we are getting wayyyy less episodes these days than back even when oz and sopranos were popping.

HBO is super concerned about profit these days and they will dump shows if they aren't getting hella eyeballs on them.
