Somewhat of a lengthy article, but not terrible. It is really interesting and describes some of the things people had to do to solve the problems. cryptology is crazy.....

dark vs deep web is a common misconception.

the deep web is thousands of times larger than surface web but it's just the part of the web not linked through search engines. my schools online registration system is essentially deep web.

the dark web is what you're thinking of and its just as big if not a little larger than surface web. but there's little to no traffic on most of those sites.
