I’m not here to solve black community issues, but I think “the hood” and the mentality it creates is what will never allow black people to advance in the US. Of course, leaving old neighborhoods is easier said than done, but if money isn’t the issue, besides being around more of our people, what are the advantages to staying?

-My apartment was burglarized in the hood.
-I’ve had friends killed by dudes with hood mentalities.
-I’ve had to fight or argue with idiots over the dumbest shyt in the hood.
-Feeling like I’ve had to keep my head on a swivel, etc.
-Took my wife to my old neighborhood, ran into the corner store, a dude I knew from back in the day was looking all in the car while I was in the store, came out and he realized it was my car, we dapped each other and chopped it up briefly and when I got in the car my wife said she thought shyt was about to go down.

Real question. Do y’all like living like that? How many of you left or stayed when you didn’t have to?

EDIT: FOR CLARIFICATION:

What’s the difference between “the hood” and a black neighborhood? Mentality. If people litter where they live, contribute to chaos where they live or feel unsafe when most of the people look like them, that’s the hood. A black neighborhood is just a place where the community is mostly black. If you haven’t seen both, you should travel more.

I love the hood. Ain't been round there in 4-5 months but I still pull up and post up at the store and the waah for a lil bit. It's like a big ass family.

Most of the people around my age and younger moved out but they still come through often Kuz ain't too many vibes that compare to when you fukin with yo people and everybody kool

shyt read like a Wayans brother script. Bad things can happen wherever you live. Not all Black neighborhoods are “hoods” or dangerous. You just chose to go to a “bad” (economically struggling) neighborhood. That falls on you

Read my post above. I never said all black neighborhoods are the hood. That’s part of the problem. We see ourselves that way.

Read you first sentence. How the “hood” or “hood mentality” fall on Black people.

My first sentence is a disclaimer so this discussion doesn’t stray too far from my question or premise. The real question I’m asking is, if you can afford to do better, why aren’t you and if you can’t, why aren’t you trying to change that. The hood mentality does not fall on all black people.

The hood magnifies the crab in the bucket mentality to an extreme

I witness one of my childhood friends killed in his own hood

When he got shot dudes was mocking him

Most people rather make it out the hood than to stay in there
