its just a different strategy and mindset for the same end goal to be honest. Those who are more conservative feel that to strengthen everyone and to improve efficiencies it is better that there is less strain on market transactions and allowing the majority of the country to keep their earnings and reinvest them with private innovation

i think neither strategy has a simple right or wrong and there is no pure free market and there is no socialism here its mostly capitalism with some insurance like social security retirement plans and safety nets for those in poverty to not starve to death

i think more of the issues lie with our 17 trillion dollars in debt but again its mostly debt to our future selves in the social security fund that isn't really put anywhere to compound like say a private retirement plan would be in...instead its used up to fund most government programs...so in the next 100-200 years there should be a heavier reliance on private retirement programs that actually put aside money in safe ETF's that get you 7-10% growth each year so they can compound properly in a 30-40 year range that would be satisfactory for a wage replacement ratio unlike social security which finances it by taxing future citizens to pay for the newly retired
