Was about to start a thread but I thought someone must've been hip to this already!

Just hit the halfway mark, discussion about how they influenced the Trinidad elections! :wow:

I wanna be pissed at the fact that they targeted black youth with this idea that it's not cool to vote..but I'm from the Islands and I can see how easily that mentality can be pushed on people. And the fact that Nix comes out and says "The Indian kids aren't going to defy their parents who tell them to go out and vote"!:leostare:

I work in data science but to see some of the real world impact of stuff on so large a scale is scarily impressive:ld:

This was terrifying and we are done as humanity
It was inevitable, cause most people are dumb.

The downside of these platforms connecting billions of people is that eventually someone would try to use it to motivate people to do more than buy shoes or Chicken nuggets. It's kinda a double edge sword, if Cambridge doesn't take the data and use it the way they did for Trump and Brexit, I'd bet money that people would be against all the filtering and blocking Facebook is doing now.

Imagine in 2015 if Facebook came out and said it was going to ban ads/memes/pages that were used to spam Pro Trump, Brexit Black Lives matter, Blue lives matter, Anti hillary, don vote propaganda. People would have screamed and cried about big brother and 1984. Imagine if Tumblr had deleted the Russian bot pages that were pretending to be black lives matter advocates who were also critical of Hillary It took them actually tipping elections and getting caught red handed for people to begin to understand how dangerous it would be to let the internet be like the wild west.

Downside is now we have to trust companies to be the gate keepers, because when everyone had free reign, the bad gus played dirty. I personally know people who were targeted and still believe stuff they saw on social media that could be easily proved false by a google search, dumb people will see a meme or a "headline" on a post and believe it without any critical thought or follow up.. Sh!t, maybe we are doomed.:snoop:

Man y’all are sleeping on this! Watched it yesterday and had many different emotions. Mostly disgust! I knew that stuff was going on with our data and a little bit about the Russian bot stuff, but this just really went deep.

Makes me want to delete all my social media except twitter but it’s tough deleting something you’ve used everyday for years.

I like how they put everything together for anyone to follow. Lo key watch especially for those who don't follow anything but social media

A few things come to mind. I wonder if this data was being funneled off to the MI5/6, The Royal Society and the SCL Group and Tavistock Institute.

When they were going into how they influenced the TnT election, I was mind blown. Especially how they targeted the Afro-Trini islanders.

It makes you think what's really going on in the world, I find it crazy how most people I talk politics with know what's going on in he US because of CNN and other US news outlets, but if I ask them about who you voting for this upcoming municipal or provincial election they'd give me the :dwillhuh:
