The "Good fat/Bad fat" debate

I think in the past couple of years people have stepped back from the viewpoints of the 90s that low-fat is the way to go for health (the premise that eating fat makes you fat). We need fats for proper development and maintenance of several bodily functions. This pertains to cholesterol as well. The debate has extended now to what kind of fats are good for you, and in what proportions. Plant vs. animal, saturated vs. unsaturated, etc. What constitutes a "good or bad" fat? Is it just semantics?

No fat is inherently bad, it's just bad out of moderation

Partially hydrogenated oils(transfats) should be less compared to others if you can help it

what about the notion of a lot of unsaturated fats in the form of cooking oil being highly oxidized/rancid?
