This isn't even close man. It's like asking Jordan in his prime to play a pickup game with a high school kid who's an all American. The all American has got game and is great in his own right but he ain't seeing Jordan. Will is one of the most bankable stars of all time and is one of the greats of his generation but Denzel transcends generations. Denzel is an all-time great. Tom hanks said it best: you know you've reached a certain plateau when you can be referenced just by one name and people know who you are. There can be and more than likely will be another will smith. There will never be another Denzel

Will shouldn't be anywhere near Denzel's category.

On another note, I do think if earlier in his career he tried playing a villain or a bad guy he coulda shown some range. And not a cartoon villain, but more in line with Training Day.

He has the natural aura and charisma that you'd believe a group of people would follow him, and at times he's displayed a darkness that you'd believe a character he played could be capable of some truly heinous shyt.

Big bad in a True Detective type premium show? :jbhmm:

I know he'd probably lean towards wanting to be the good guy with a dark past, but if he leaned into true evil, Will could surprise people IMO.

WiIl's flops are more of a bigger deal tho

why's that?
:patrice:

note: I still say denzel :whoa:

Because Will's first instinct it to sell, and Denzel's first instinct is to act, so you can forgive Denzel a dud when you see he's trying to stretch himself as an actor, but Will's not doing that (from the outside looking in).

He might care about the craft, but box office dollars comes first, so when it fails, we can sit back and go

We're talking about a dude who allegedly sat down with his people one day, studied box office trends and concepts over a ten year span, then picked scripts based on what fit in with those trends. That's how you get a shyt-show like Wild, Wild West.

Can you imagine Denzel in a meeting with his agent and his agent goes "Sci-fi is back, Denz, we gotta get on that train!"
