American Pit Bull Terrier
Breed Group: Terrier
Despite their reputations, the American Pit Bull Terrier is typically an affectionate and loving breed. They are not as fond of dogs and other furry creatures, but with the right training and socialization, these pups can make excellent family companions and watchdogs.
Behavior
The American Pit Bull Terrier is loyal, tough, and tenacious. They have plenty of stamina and make great watchdogs. APBTs are extremely athletic, strong, and agile. They’re stubborn and fearless but despite popular opinion, they are usually gentle with families. Their name and looks may seem intimidating, but deep down, these pups are sweethearts when they get the right training and socialization.
Coat
American Pit Bull Terriers have a stiff coat that is smooth and glossy. They come in a variety of colors, including black, brown, red, and multi-colored, and they often have white fur on their chest, neck, legs, or feet. These dogs tend to be average shedders, but with weekly brushing, their grooming needs will be fairly low.
Activity
This breed needs a lot of exercise to keep their minds and bodies busy. Whether it’s taking long walks, running alongside a bike, or chasing after a ball or Frisbee, the APBT can't get enough! They really love playing fetch, so keep a ball handy as their toy of choice.
