Terrible signaling from Macron. Left voters are not gonna play the Republican Front next time because of this.

It's really fukked up.

This basically means that Macron made a deal with the RN, right?

What the fukk is the point of a "Republican front" when, in the end, Macron was more willing to negotiate with the RN than with the NFP?

I think the answer is that the "Republican front" was being cynically used by Macron for his own personal benefit, not because he actually believed in it. I think Macron's calculation was that the left parties would be unable to unite, leaving Macron's crew as the only ones who could save the electorate from the RN boogeyman. His strategy backfired when the NFP was formed and enough NFP candidates did well enough in the first round that they couldn't be coerced into dropping before the second round out in favor of Macron-ist candidates who they outperformed.

Macron always leaned right. Even when he was in the Socialist Party, he was on the Strauss-Khan wave so he was really a centrist then.

Macron really had one simple thing to do which was give something back to the left as a thank you. Macron technically got the best outcome in the second round. The three ways were benefitial to his party mostly and he got an unexpectedly good number of congressmen when they were supposed to be wiped out.

He was always technically right that a left-only government would have fallen quick but he should have pushed for a NFP-led gov to open up somehow to be able to reach up to center right, so there would not be a majority against the gov.

He could also have made a gambit by telling the left to make their left only gov and the moment they got censored, he could have told them that they failed so he would allow a right-only gov. But he made the worst choice by freezing them out totally and giving RN king maker powers.

@Liu Kang @mbewane
Yes, it is likely. The vote of no confidence starts in an hour in a half and both RN and NFP said they would vote for it and they have more than 289 votes.
