thought the French didn't see race

:patrice:
Far right gonna far right :manny:

The biggest star in France is a Blasian Girl named Aya Nakamura? :wtf:
Nah she's not Asian lol , she is 100% Malian but was raised and grew up in France though I believe she actually became French a couple years ago. The Nakamura name comes from one of the characters of the 'Heroes' TV show she was fan of.

How France looking as far as the Olympics is concerned?

They gonna be-able to handle all the tourist that about to come with everything else going on?
France is the most visited country in the world so the additional visitors from the Olympics will probably not be a problem. There will be added police presence but I think they are a bit spread thin since the last terror attacks. So they likely will use temp security jobs when needed in places where police is not required.

Someone explain wtf just happened:

@Liu Kang @mbewane @88m3 :lupe:

It's a mess but it makes sense.

Last sunday there was an election for the European parliament. It didn't have much to do nationally but as usual Macron made it about himself as a test to know if he had the trust the electors.

The far right has steadily been on the rise for decades in Europe and France as well, and this is the election where they actually blew everybody out. In my city the far right got 20% but overall in the country it is at 37% :picard: Macron's party is second at... 14.5% just a notch above the Socialist Party.

So objectively, the RN (Le Pen and Bardella's party) is the biggest force in the country and will have the most "congressmen" for France in the European parliament by far.

They already had a huge surge in congressmen in the French parliament in 2022 when out of 577, they had 90 and at those elections (they directly follow the presidential ones), Macron's party lost his majority so he had trouble governing since then. Therefore it needed the right (Republicans party) to pass legislation.

With this dissolution, Macron basically said "fukk it, y'all like the far right like that, I dare you to make them the majority in parliament". That's a huge gamble for our democracy. The next vote is a the end of the month and hopefully, the left manages to unite 😬

@Serious

French Nazis won the most seats in EU parliament election so Macron is having snap local elections to try and regain power domestically
I think the far right did well in other countries as well but haven't really looked into where yet

Also note the uptick in pro Trump posting in hl/tlr

Whole situation got me fukked up. Le Pen could potentially be Prime Minister in about a month. Damn near all of France voted Far-Right. I'm back in Belgium now but things are looking bleak as hell here too. Come summer it could be Italy, France, Netherlands (I think) with Far-Right PMs, and Belgium with an almost Far-Right one.

Macron is still going to be President, no matter what happens in the snap elections.

Nah Le Pen doesnt want to be PM. She wants president and nothing else. Likely be Bardella if that ever happens because the choice of the PM is still up to the president ultimately and the government can still be censored by the parliament anyway.
