The 2-2 Minnesota Vikings are preparing to take on the 1-4 Kansas City Chiefs tomorrow.
With a good amount of media coverage going toward the improvement of Blake Bortles and Derek Carr, and the weekly progress updates of Marcus Mariotta and Jameis Winston...little has been discussed about last year's 1st round pick, Teddy Bridgewater.
Bridgewater is sporting a modest 3 touchdowns to 2 Interceptions so far this year, to go with an excellent 67% completion percentage.
But at 6.73 Yards per Attempt, he's clearly more of a Game Manager than a leading quarterback at this point.
Part of this might have to do with the tools in the toolbox.
Journeyman WR Mike Wallace and TE Kyle Rudolph are dominating the targets, with RB Adrian Peterson just behind them. In a division with gunslingers like Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler and Matthew Stafford (you can debate their effectiveness at another time), how is Bridgewater expected to compete with no talent to stretch the field or keep drives alive on 3rd down? Cutler has Alshon Jeffery. Stafford has Megatron. And Rodgers has...well he's Aaron Rodgers.
Minnesota has the worst passing attack in the league and it's not like there's much hope on the bench.
Their 2015 draft didn't see them take an offensive player until the 4th round (OT TJ Clemmings - Pittsburgh) and only 1 WR (Stefon Diggs - Maryland) in the 5th. Diggs has 6 catches to go along with 2 fumbles, so not much has panned out there.
Are the Vikings going to do anything to help their QB succeed?
(edit - mistyped David Carr, instead of Derek Carr)
