Most of us were either too young to remember a debut album or simply just wasn't checking for said artist when they first dropped. Time to keep it 100, and be honest brehs..... We all didn't come out the womb as knowledgeable hiphop heads
Nas : I was like 8,9 when Illmatic dropped so I wasn't up on hiphop like that, I had my MC hammer VHS tape and that's all I needed as far as music went at the time. So yeah, I originally missed that album....first time I remember hearing Nas was when "If I ruled the world" dropped and it had me like Been a fan ever since
2pac: My earliest memory of a Pac record was probably Keep ur head up or I get Around, one of those two.
Jay Z: I remember "Ain't no nikka" getting alot of play in my hood in 96, along with that Foxy Brown song "I'll be" that featured him.
Biggie: Probably "Big Poppa" or summin, my earliest memory of hearing him isn't too clear.....
Kanye West: First heard him in 2002 on Blueprint 2 with "The Bounce" before that I seen his name in album credits for BP1 and Beanie Sigel's album but never paid too much attention to dude. I think he rapped a hook on Talib Kweli's "Quality" album that same year also.
50 cent: "How to rob" off the In too deep soundtrack.....the majority of us probably first heard him here also.
LL COOL J: I think his first album came out the year I was born or a year after so I didn't really start checking LL out until the "Mr Smith" album in 1995... "Doin it" "I shot ya" "Loungin" and that joint with Boyz II men "Hey Lover" got heavy airplay in the mid 90s.........
Dr Dre and Snoop: Its funny how I don't remember when Illmatic dropped but I remember hearing cars ride by my block blasting the Chronic and Doggystyle as a 9 yr old kid...Snoop and Dre were more commercial at the time and still are so I guess thats why. As a matter of fact my introduction to rap not named MC hammer was through the entire early 90s Deathrow era, they had shyt on lock
add on brehs.
