I really liked this movie. I haven't watched it since it came out, but Joaquin is on one of the actors where he makes a movie and I have to see it. I'll have to revisit this.

I would say in psychological terms, Joaquin's portrayal of Freddy represents The Id, the personification of every person's inner beast.
