:patrice: I am beginning to wonder that as well...its amazing how some of these posters could defend a deal which is so lopsided in terms of favoring the label...

they got to be a bunch of pro-corporate music industry pundits

you, know they have no concept of understanding.

of course a label is going to try to fukk you. it's all about timing and self preservation. if anything, this just seems like another reminder to be vigilant and to not get lost in the game.

I believe the majority of the people who defend the labels on this site. Probably work for labels or use to
Not saying you were talking bout me, but trust I am not one of these people. Matter of fact I 100 percent believe record labels took Hip Hop off course a long time ago and has purposely dumbed it down and made it worse.

San-Francisco-based Zoe Keating — a tech-savvy, DIY, Amanda Palmer of the cello — has blown the whistle on the tiny amounts the streaming services pay musicians.

Though she’s exactly the kind of artist who should be cashing in on streaming, since she releases her own music, tours relentlessly, and has developed a strong following since her days with rock band Rasputina, only 8 percent of her last year’s earnings from recorded music came from streaming.

The iTunes store, which pays out in small amounts since most purchases are for 99 cent songs, paid her about six times what she earned from streaming. (More than 400,000 Spotify streams earned her $1,764; almost 2 million YouTube views generated $1,248.)

This isn't true though. Artists do get money from streams, there was a thread on Young Chop discussing how Chief keef gets money from streams. How much is a different story but they do get paid

Chop was taking bout being an independent artist. Tho

Vevo was created by the industry to monetize videos on YouTube...and funnel the revenue from Ads back to the labels

artists the majority of whom don't own their intellectual property DONT EAT OFF THIS REVENUE....
How's that evil? Labels take risks and invest in people who can pan and not recouperate. That risk deserves reward.

dude..Soundcloud JUST started that streaming service this year.....and the ONLY artists entitled to it are those with LABEL DEALS by INVITE only.....

And being that CHIEF KEEF got dropped.....their goes what little streaming revenue he has bruh.....that's INTERSCOPE's dinner plate :manny:

they just like VEVO are only encouraging ventures with distributors......the indys are not benifiting from this....

Soundcloud did this to save itself from cease and desist letters by the industry.....just like youtube...they had to cut a deal with the majors to have that content...

the indys don't have that leverage

if you don't believe me...read Soundcloud's "partner" program ..and how it ONLY benefit big name artists

look at who is entitled to revenues and WHO ISN'T :mjpls:

On SoundCloud

Yeah, dudes are delusional if they think the major labels and their distributors are going to let independent artists eat off similar/same platforms they are using, the labels don't want artists to be successfully independent, they want them to be dependent on them. ie sign your soul for a 360 deal. :mjpls:
