Its ridiculous that a 30 year old movie has better overall effects than a movie these days with the latest technology...

That shyt still trips me out. I was VERY disappointed when the prequel decided to go more cgi than animatronics.

The CGI in the prequel was so shytty which made the weak script and bad acting just even more annoying to me.

'The Thing' prequel was awful. I think that was the worse use of CGI I've ever seen in a film. There's a lot of films that can't even get on the original Star Wars level of special effects

"The Thing" prequel really dropped the ball

Its not like the movie was slated to be a real block buster....if they would have just went in the lab and came up with some 2012 blood and animatronics......:merchant:

That shyt is just :mindblown:

There was a student who made a CGI short by himself that looks better than most of the special effects I've seen in movies with huge budgets in this decade. Film industry has no excuse.

No matter how good the cgi looks having something that's actually there will always be better looking imo.I wish animatronics would have evolved but i guess cgi was the cheap and easy way out.A shame really.

latex effects!!..cgi really fukked a lot of talent up then again its about the times and moving forward.

an american werewolf in london really caught my interest with make up effects then came along the thing (actually this was a remake of the 60's film).

Bullshyt.

When is hte last time you actually watched either of those movies?

The practical effects are pretty good, but the CGI doesn't hold up AT ALL.

And if anybody wants to see films with great practical special effects (and some good CGI) I recommend "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army", "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy", and "Pan's Labyrinth".

In terms of of stuff that still holds up to this day "The Thing" is up there along with "The Fly" and a movie that constantly gets overlooked for having amazing practical effects is "Little Shop of Horrors"....Funny how all of those old movies with dope practical effects are all remakes...
