DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will battle the Legion of Doom in Season 2, it was announced on Saturday at the San Diego Comic-Con.

And populating The CW series’ iteration of the infamous Legion of Doom will be some familiar faces: Reverse-Flash (to again played by The Flash‘s Matt Letscher), Captain Cold (LegendsWentworth Miller), Malcolm Merlyn aka the Dark Archer (Arrow vet John Barrowman) and Damien Darhk (Arrow‘s Neal McDonough).

Letscher will be a series regular on Legends Season 2, while McDonough will recur. Miller and Barrowman recently signed groundbreaking deals where they are series regulars across all of The CW’s superhero shows.

“For Season 2 of Legends, we decided that the perfect antagonist for TV’s first-ever team of Super Heroes would be TV’s first-ever team of Super-Villains,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement, “recruited from the ranks of Arrowand The Flash’s deadliest adversaries. Being huge fans of the Challenge of the Superfriends, we’ve come to call this group our ‘Legion of Doom.’”

Speaking of super friends, the Legends will be getting some — in the form of Justice Society of America members. Already, Rip Hunter’s team has met Hourman (played by Suits‘ Patrick J. Adams in the Season 1 finale). Additionally, to be cast for Season 2 areStargirl, Dr. Mid-Nite and Obsidian (click names for details).

Earlier this summer, Nick Zano (2 Broke Girls) was added to teh Legends cast as Dr. Nate Heywood aka Citizen Steel.

“Even the heroes have heroes,” EP Phil Klemmer said of the Legends getting help from the Justice Society. “For us, the JSA is like that golden age of superheroes. For our team, it’s like modern people meeting that greatest generation.”

Legends also recently cast The OriginalsMaisie Richardson-Sellers in the series-regular role of Amaya Jiwe, aka Vixen, to fill a vacancy on the Waverider, after Hawkgirl and Hawkman bid the team adieu, and in the wake of Leonard Snart’s sacrificial death.

Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn better watch out, because Legends of Tomorrow‘s White Canary is feeling vengeful.

With both baddies joining the CW series for Season 2 as part of the Legion of Doom (details here), “I’m excited because Sara really wants to kill these people,” Caity Lotz said on Saturday at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. “[Malcolm] killed me, and Damien Darhk… I’m very excited to get my hands on him,” given that he killed sis Laurel Lance.

The quartet of enemies – Captain Cold and Reverse-Flash flesh out the gnarly group – won’t be the only challenge facing the Waverider heroes.

“They’re almost victims of their own success” coming off last season’s mission, executive producer Phil Klemmer previewed. “Once you’ve climbed Everest, what is there left to conquer?” Well, there’s the fallout from the destruction of the Oculus. “Time has been left unguarded. Now they’re in charge of guarding all of history” and “fixing these things called aberrations.”

Other highlights from the panel:

* Within the first few minutes of the Season 2 premiere, Stephen Amell will make an appearance as Star City mayor Oliver Queen. As seen in the trailer below, Damien Darhk will also show up in the installment, circa 1942.

* With his “shadow gone” (aka Leonard Snart), “Rory this year is going to be even more outrageous than he was last year,” Dominic Purcell teased.

* Will White Canary find a new love in Season 2? “Sara’s kind of a player. She’s having fun. She’s a bit of a Casanova,” Lotz replied. “I did [say], ‘I’d love for Sara to get a nice girlfriend coming up.’ We’ll see. It’s kind of hard to find love when you’re traveling through time on a spaceship. But somehow, Sara finds time.”

* For Rip, there’s a “big twist with him quite early on that changes everything,” Arthur Darvill teased.

* Jonah Hex will return in Episode 6.

* Maisie Richardson-Sellers predicts that her new team member Vixen will “struggle with Rory” and “gel with Sara.”

* New series regular Nick Zano (playing Dr. Nate Heywood aka Citizen Steel) has always wanted to work with Victor Garber, so he got understandably flustered while shooting a scene recently with the veteran actor. After Garber said his line, ‘There was silence , and [Victor] looked at me and said, ‘Your turn,'” Zano recalled.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 premieres Thursday, Oct. 13 at 8/7c on The CW.

From what I've read and seen so far of season 2, it's definitely going to be a lot of moving parts here. Especially when this crosses over into the other super hero shows on CW. The biggest challenge for this show is keep things on a level where it still makes some sense instead of it all being disjointed and one big mess. Still, I'm excited to see what is in store!

:francis: Not sure how to feel about this. Really bringing back Damien Darhk?? Having Captain Cold and Merlyn form a Legion of Doom? Plus Reverse Flash?

Don't mind the legion of doom part, but I would have much preferred all new villains.

Interesting.

So Snart is back to being a bad guy? :patrice:

Also wasn't expecting Reverse Flash to be a regular. Should be interesting, I wonder if we'll get to see the future he came from.

The Justice Society of America is coming to life on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow!

iZombie alum Matthew MacCaull has been tapped to play Henry Heywood, Sr., a.k.a DC Comics character Commander Steel, EW has learned exclusively.

As revealed at Comic-Con, Commander Steel is a member of the Justice Society of America alongside Obsidian, Vixen (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers), Stargirl, and Dr. Mid-Nite, who join the previously introduced Hourman (Patrick J. Adams).

Further details on Commander Steel are being kept under wraps, but the character is the grandfather of Dr. Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), a.k.a Citizen Steel.

MacCaull, who can currently be seen in Star Trek Beyond, also includes Bates Motel and The Killing among his credits.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns Thursday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

The Justice Society of America is shaping up on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Sarah Grey will take on the role of Courtney Whitmore, better known as the cosmic staff yielding heroine Stargirl, a member of the Justice Society of America, EW confirms. Grey, who is also set to appear in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot, joins a growing roster of new faces for Legends of Tomorrow’s sophomore season, returning to the CW on Oct. 13.

Grey, who’s also appeared on the CW’s iZombie, is just the latest addition to the Legends cast, which also welcomes previously announced Matthew MacCaull as Commander Steel, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Vixen, and Nick Zano as MacCaull’s grandson Citizen Steel. The showconfirmed the introduction of the Justice Society of America for season 2 after Patrick J. Adams (Suits) debuted as Hourman in the closing moments of the first season finale.

As revealed at Comic-Con last month, the series’ second season will find the Legends joining forces with the JSA to take down the Legion of Doom, a super-villain team-up group comprised of Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Damian Darhk (Neal McDonough), Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher), and the Legends’ old pal Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).

IGN was the first to report the news.

Legends of Tomorrow returns Thursday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
