Same as before

What did you get this year? What were your favorite games? What were your disappointments? What were your surprises. Did you take on any new genres? Did some genres pass you by? What are you looking forward to next year? I'll be back later with some pics and comments of my 2024 gaming life and purchases.

What were your favorite games?

  • Astro Bot 🤖
  • Helldivers 2 🪲
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 💎
  • Prince of Persia Lost Crown 👑
  • Stellar Blade 💅

What were your disappointments?
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 - didn’t really get hype for this until some content creators i trust said it was the new goat. I think this is one of my least favorite games I’ve played to completion in a very long time and feel dumb for putting so many hours into it.
  • Unicorn Overlord - did not gel with the story at all, which is a shame after how goated 13 sentinels was. came into the year thinking this would easily be my GOTY or at least in my top 3.
  • No Hollow Knight Silksong - it is what it is, writing it off now until it actually releases

What were your surprises?
  • Astro Bot being announced and releasing 3 months later
  • Helldivers 2 being absolute piff
  • Xbox’s full multiplatform/3rd party strategy and subsequent releases
  • Concords spectacular failure
Did you take on any new genres?

  • Multiplayer co-op shooter

What are you looking forward to next year?

FC 25 (ea play pro)
Nba 2k25
Hellblade 2 (gamepass)

Ghosts of tsushima
Space marine 2
Indiana Jones (gamepass)

Marvel rivals

Probably copped some other games but this is all I can remember right now

What were your favorite games?
Nba 2k25
Cfb 25
Helldivers 2
Ghosts of tsushima

What were your disappointments?
Hellblade 2- got boring fast and I don't like puzzles in games.
Fc 25 - the passing and switching is retarded

What were your Surprises?
Marvel rivals - thought this was gonna feel like a mobile game. Way more fun than I thought it could be.
Nba 2k25 - best gameplay in a sports sim game ever and my favorite game of the year.
Black ops 6 - didn't think the new movement would be so fun. Haven't had this much fun playing cod since og mw2. Also suprised at how they slowed down the BO6 movement in warzone.

Did you take on any new genres?
Tried more single player games this year. Need to try to finish some of them now.

Did some genres pass you by?
Naw

What are you looking forward to next year?

my most played game this year was BG3.
my second most played game this year was BG3, modded into a literal nightmare.
the playtime difference between that and my next highest game is... hundreds of hours.
I say this with minimal pride.
SotE and Hades 2 both got a bunch of burn, plus Convergence mod for Elden Ring basically makes it a completely different game.

in 2025, I'm pivoting to GOT/FF7Reb PC replays to start next year to prep for Yotei. Keeping my eye on Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. I love me some Oblivion-likes with a smooth layer of jank:wow:
oh. And doing an evil murderhobo solo modded honour run of BG3.

no new genres. I want to try Rivals but I'm scurred.
I'll be playing Borderlands 4 on release but probably won't be happy about doing it.

What were your favorite games?

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Tekken 8
Rise of the Ronin
Metaphor ReFantazio
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

What were your disappointments?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 & Unicorn Overlord. Dropped both after about 20 hours or so. Neither of them really hooked me like that

What are you looking forward to next year?

Monster Hunter Wilds

From 2020-2023 I was going ham trying to beat as many games as I could a year but now I’m just focused on playing the games I really like and not forcing myself to play anything just for the sake of beating it

Tekken 8 was my personal game of the year after just hitting 400+ hours and will continue to play throughout its lifespan

I’ve considered trying out Helldivers, Dragon Age, or Nine Sols before the year ends but I think that’s moreso me just wanting to buy some shyt. I been replaying personal favorites like Cyberpunk and armored core here and there as well

I went into this year, thinking it was going to be a typical year. However, Microsoft threw that way of thinking into a tailspin very early this year. I've been a Microsoft fan, largely because it's PC adjacent. That said, with the news about Microsoft and even Sony eventually porting games to PC, for the third and final time, I'm Team Steam primarily and I will remain largely on this side.

Once I came to this conclusion, I decided to buy a large portion of my existing console games on Steam, buy games that I had for free on Epic on Steam as well as new games on Steam.

So, when I got to adding these purchases up for the year, I was both surprised and not surprised, if that makes any sense. Surprised by the amount of games, not particularly surprised at the amount of money spent. That grand total is at the bottom of this post on a spreadsheet. That said, let me show what I did this year.

What did you get this year?

What were your favorite games?
Dragon Age: Veilguard
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Ara: History Untold
Palworld

What were your disappointments?
I can't a lot of action VR games anymore, seemingly to getting dizzy or my stomach hurting. Walkabout Golf and Beat Saber is fine as is my FitXR working out but now, others in moderation.

What were your surprises?
Palworld. I bought it for shyts, giggles and FOMO but underneath all of that is one of the best gaming loops I've ever experienced in my life. Derivative in monster design but that's about it. There is a reason as to why it is constantly in the Steam top 20 played to this day.

Did you take on any new genres?
Via Palworld, Survival/Crafting

Did some genres pass you by?
Nothing in 2024

What are you looking forward to next year?
Civilization VII comes out. Everything else is second.

For the benefit of gaming in 2024 and purchased in 2024 for gaming into 2025, that grand total is correct. Checked it 3x times. I'd post more pics but I ran into the 20 image limits of the post.
