Let me be 100% with you folks right now; Rocko’s Modern Life is the reason I love cartoons! Rocko’s Modern Life is the first cartoon I can vividly remember watching as a kid and the show has never lost it’s flair over the past two decades. Rocko’s Modern Life only lasted for four seasons and I’ve always hoped that Nickelodeon would bring the show back one of these days. That day may be coming sooner than we think!
Nothing is ever set in stone with these types of things, but when something like what you are about to see is said; it’s very hard not to get excited.
Carl Jones is one of our favorite people and you probably know him from directing and producing the Black Dynamite animated series on Adult Swim. You may also know Carl for his amazing work on The Boondocks seasons 1-3. We don’t have to go through all of the Carl Jones’ catalog for you to understand that the guy is extremely dope when it comes to animation (check out our interview with Carl Jones here).
Almost one year ago, Carl Jones took to Twitter to announce that he was meeting with Rocko’s Modern Life creator Joe Murray, presumably to work on a new project. You can see that tweet below.
Last night Carl Jones dropped a bomb on Twitter by saying that Rocko just might be returning!
If what Carl Jones is teasing what we think he’s teasing, then a lot of 90s cartoon watchers are about to be very excited. Rocko’s Modern Life contained some of the best crude humor that made Nickelodeon great back in the day. Hell we could even say that RML jumpstarted the careers of iconic voice actors Carlos Alazraqui and Tom Kenny. A Rocko’s Modern Life return would be fantastic, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to happen.
Carl Jones mentioned that we might be seeing our favorite wallaby return, but he didn’t clarify how we would see him return. Rocko could return with a small short, or play a part in a movie. There have already been reports that Rocko is set to appear in Nickelodeon’s upcoming movie based on their classic cartoon series, so it is possible Carl Jones could be referring to that film.
We have already reached out to Carl Jones for comment and we hope we can get some clarification on this topic. We can only hope that a reboot of Rocko’s Modern Life is on the horizon!
