The Black Church as an Elephants graveyard

It was once believed that older elephants or elephants nearing death would gather in specifics places away from their herd to die off alone. It was there that they spent their finals days to mull around till death took them.

I believe the black church acts as an elephants graveyard. Where the burn outs, the weak, the feable, the terminally ill go to die. Consider the demographics of a modern church: the old, the single female, the 12 step druggie, and the cowards all congregate until fate takes them away.

I can agree to a certain extent. I don't even disagree with the church being a sanctuary for those kind of people. My problem with the church is that it perpetuates pacivity. The church could be a powerful tool used to uplift and empower the black community, but sadly a lot of preachers and church goers have sold out to white daddy/jesus.

I don't mean literal death. I'm talking functional death.

Folks of all walks of life go to church....
There are some churches in impoverished areas that seem to have a surplus of the unsavory but The story goes: God qualifies the called he don't call the "qualified"

Respect, this analogy seems well thought out

But the church certainly have other kinds of folks too. Especially if you factor in the bravery of the church during the civil rights era. So I can't view it as just a haven for those you described

I agree. The struggles with the identity of the individual, being your race or religion, have been a weakness because there are too many instances where your reaction is dependent on your identity. The confusion and inconsistent stance of who to help and cater to, white christian or a black community member,have encouraged deep passivity
