Basketball shoe sales are dropping, while athleisure trends are skyrocketing.
Michael Jordan changed the way basketball shoes were perceived when he signed his iconic Nike NKE deal in 1984 and debuted the Air Jordan 1. Basketball shoes became so popular that they soon outgrew the court and were being worn as everyday shoes.

For years, basketball shoes adorned with names like LeBron James and Kevin Durant sold well. But lately, the performance basketball shoe market has struggled.

I've bought more athletic type sneakers over the years but I still don't think Jordan's are going anywhere.

there out of here, call them spaceman boots.

since the top rappers are all now eurocentric influence, jordans are worn in the UK but its a very very rare sight and its the low cuts like athletic shoes.

it's interesting how at the end of the article it mentions Kanye releasing a basketball shoe for All-Star weekend, even though naan nuthin' athletic about Ye.

on a historical note though, athleisure is basically what most classic sneakers are; they were originally for sport and advertised by athletes (Chuck Taylor, Stan Smith) and due to their popularity the masses adopted them. high-performance b-ball shoes could only be the exception for so long.

I read a very similar article a few years back. It was basically about how Nike/Air Jordans market share was in decline and how Under Armour was screwed with their latest Curry basketball shoes drop.

Basically pointed out how Kanye flipped things up with Yeezys, fashion became heavy into athleisure and Adidas rode the wave it continues to ride today.
