It has been a somewhat long and tortured road toward the live-action remake of anime classic "Akira." In early 2012, Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the movie, just as production — which had established offices in Vancouver — was getting ready to gear up. Over a year later, they rehired Jaume Collett-Serra, the man behind the upcoming thriller "Run All Night," to direct, and last summer Dante Harper was tapped to pen the script. And now? Nothing it would seem.

Doing the rounds for "Run All Night," Collider chatted with Collet-Serra, and had a rather succinct answer when asked about the status of the movie: “No, no. There’s nothing.” And when pressed a little further about whether or not the movie was on his timeline, the filmmaker stated: “It’s a Warner Bros. question.”

And we can't say we're all too bummed by this news. It was never a great idea to start with, and even some of the contending actors for the project like Toby Kebbell voiced very clear concerns about the approach being taken with the material. So, it looks like it's once again off the slate, and frankly, we're in no rush to see any development news surface anytime soon.
